POWER CONVERTER

The Power Converter was designed for vehicles that have numerous clean power concerns such as motor noise, large electrical spikes, and significant transients. These do not necessarily damage equipment immediately, but will erode the delicate circuitry of equipment. The black anodized aluminium has flanges for bulkhead mounting, and the gasket seal prevents the ingress of water. Externally mounted fuses protect the unit from any overloads.

The graph shows the technical data of tests conducted on electric motors. This trial consists of a 12V DC automotive battery supplying a 1Amp resistive load for a 14 second test period. While both the output and the input filter were being monitored with a storage oscilloscope, the battery was subject to high ripple load for a 6 second period. (The ripple was generated by a DC motor control unit pulsing a 30Amp resistive load).

The load generated a 30V peak-to-peak supply noise that can be seen on the lower of the two traces in the above diagram (trace B). Simultaneously, the output from the Power Converter was monitored on the upper trace (trace A). The effectiveness of the unit can bee seen by the absence of noise on the output trace as only the terminal volt-age drop of the battery is in evidence.
